Voting Checklist

VoteKnox.org cannot guarentee the accuracy and timeliness of information provided. Double-check with state and local election authorities.

1. Make sure you are registered to vote!

DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP - Even if you have registered before, you could have been purged from the rolls. Always double-check your registration status.

Use the official Tennessee government website to check your voter registration status at https://tnmap.tn.gov/voterlookup. If you are registered, proceed to the next step.

The deadline to register for the August election was July 7, so you will not be able to vote in this election if you aren't already registered. You have until October 5 to register for the midterm elections in November.

2. Know when, where, and how you are voting

Early voting starts on Friday, July 17, ends on Saturday, August 1, and is open every day except Sunday. Election Day is on Thursday, August 6. Where you vote will depend on whether you choose to cast your ballot in early voting or on Election Day.

Early Voting:

You may vote at any early voting location in Knox County. You can find an official list of all early voting locations and their hours at this link.

Election Day

You must vote at your precinct's voting location. Follow these instructions to find your polling place.

Absentee ("Mail-In") Ballots

Primaries

If you are a Republican or Democrat, you will vote in the Republican or Democratic Primary, respectively. Otherwise, you will choose a General-Only ballot, skipping the primaries.

3. Decide how to keep track of your selections

Before you begin deciding on candidates, you'll want to have a system to keep track of your selections. VoteKnox.org has free options available to help you, as shown below:

4. Find and record your districs

Follow the instructions on our District Information page to easily find which districts you are in and save them for reference. If you are using one of our lists or templates as shown above, you will find a dedicated place to record this information.

5. Review the offices on the ballot and choose candidates to vote for

The easiest way to do this is on the VoteKnox.org homepage. Just under the yellow section, you will find a red stripe labeled "Federal & State Positions" with the offices on the primary ballot listed below, two-wide on larger devices and one-wide on mobile. Under each office, you will find a button to view the candidates in the Republican primary and one to view the candidates in the Democratic primary. For local positions, there will be just one button to view all candidates as it is a general election, not a primary. These pages display the candidates' names, images, descriptions, and websites. At the bottom of each page are arrows that take you to the previous or next office on the ballot without returning to the homepage (available on most pages, not all). To return to the homepage at any time, press the "K" logo in the top-left corner of your screen.

Reminder: You must vote only in the Republican primary, only in the Democratic primary, or not in the primary at all. Your party selection in the primary does not obligate you to choose partisan candidates in the general election or in future elections, but you must vote in the primary of your own party according to state law.
